School starts at 8:00 am and ends at 2: 15 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and at ends at 1:15 pm on Wednesday. Students are considered tardy after 8:05 am. If reporting after 8:10am, they must go to the school office for a tardy slip. Ten or more unexcused tardies will be referred to our school counselor and a Family Court Petition may be filed. Parents are required to pick up their child promptly after dismissal.
If your child will be absent from school, please notify the school office by calling 887-7636. All absences are considered unexcused until a note from your physician is turned in. Absences for "personal reasons" are not excused absences. You must provide the school with a specific reason for your child's absence. Excessive absences (10 or more) will be referred to our school counselor and a Petition for Nonattendance with Family Court may be filed.
Perfect Attendance means NO tardies or absences for the school year.
Progressive Procedures for School Absenteeism
Teacher makes contact with parents/guardians regarding absences. Teacher informs parents/guardians that school attendance is mandatory for children who are ages six years and older. Document dates and times of contact.
Teacher refers the student to the counselor and documents this action. Counselor contacts parents/guardians to set up a conference with the teacher, parent and
counselor. This action, along with the results of the meeting, is documented by the counselor.
Parent is informed that one more absence means that # 1 certified letter will be
sent. If parent does not attend the above mentioned meeting, certified letter # 1 will be sent requesting a parent conference.
Counselor contacts parent/guardian for a parent/teacher/counselor/administrator conference. Results of the conference are documented by counselor. Parent is informed that one more absence will result in certified letter #2 being sent to parents. If parent does not attend the conference, certified letter #2 is sent.
Counselor sends certified letter #2 asking for a response from parent/guardian within ten days, indicating that no response will result in the school filing a non-attendance petition in family court. Counselor notifies administration and documents this action. If parent/guardian does not respond in ten days, or absences continue, the court petition is filed for non-attendance.
Note: School personnel will provide information to parents/guardians regarding the school's array of services at each of the above steps, in an effort to facilitate the child's improved school attendance.
